Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a Hindi film, released in 1998, directed by Madhuri Dixit and produced by Aditya Chopra. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. The film follows the story of Rahul Khanna (Shah Rukh), an aspiring filmmaker who falls in love with his classmate Meenakshi (Madhu) after accidentally filming her dancing at a party. The success of the film helped establish the careers of both director Madhuri Dixit and actor Shah Rukh Khan. It was also one of the top 20 highest-grossing films of the year in India. Rahul Khanna lives in the city of Meerut with his family. Rahul is very eager to become a great filmmaker, but he does not have the money to make his dreams come true. To earn some money, he goes to work in an automobile factory. He has two friends, Abhishek Sharma (Aftab Shivdasani) and Kumar (Anupam Kher). He meets with failure when he does not get a job on reduced terms at his desired position of assistant director. He sees a dance performance in a party organized at the factory. The performance is of a young girl named Meenakshi Kapoor (Madhuri Dixit). Rahul films her dancing on his camera phone. Then he meets the people in charge of the party, Mr. Shetty (Om Puri), and is informed that they want to meet with him in person to discuss the matter, but he does not show up. Meenakshi's father is a police officer who knows everyone in his office by face only, so Rahul repeatedly goes to her house for their meetings. He also speaks with her mother Bindu (Raaj Kumar) about his ideas for films. Rahul also has a crush on Bindu. Rahul tells his boss that he is going to Mumbai to produce a film, and takes his boss' credit card. He goes to a movie studio in Mumbai, but gets a job as a porter instead of an assistant director. He is happy to get the job and decides not to be greedy about it. He meets with success when he sees Meenakshi in her school uniform. Though she tries to avoid him throughout the day, Rahul finally approaches her with his camera phone, which she refuses at first but is eventually persuaded by her friends and allows Rahul to film her again. She agrees on condition that Rahul will not use the footage for any commercial purpose. Rahul has many failures, but he is persistent. He strikes up a friendship with Meenakshi, who invites him to her house for dinner. He first gets into an argument with her father, but then impresses him by saying that he will shoot a movie about the police force which will be an international hit and the money earned will help his family out.
