Black Panther is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the eighteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as well as the first African-American-led superhero film. Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa / Black Panther alongside Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. In Black Panther, T'Challa returns home as king of Wakanda but finds his sovereignty challenged by a new adversary. The film was announced in October 2014, and Boseman made his first appearance as the character in Captain America: Civil War (2016). By 2016, Coogler had joined Black Panther as director, and additional cast members came on board beginning in May 2017. Location filming took place at Atlanta's Pinewood Studios, and various locations around Georgia, including Downtown Atlanta’s West End. Production also occurred on location in South Korea and Los Angeles. Black Panther premiered in Los Angeles on January 29, 2018 and was released theatrically on February 16. The film received praise from critics for its direction, screenplay, acting, production merits, costume design, and soundtrack. Many critics considered it to be one of the best films set in the MCU and noted its cultural significance. The film broke numerous box office records; it is the highest-grossing solo superhero film ever made, the third-highest-grossing film of 2018 and the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time. It also grossed $688 million worldwide from the date of release to April 1, 2018, surpassing Jurassic World ($652 million) to become the fourth highest grossing movie ever in a single weekend. The United Nations (UN) QR Department is the secretariat of the United Nations responsible for monitoring and investigating activities related to the attacks made by superheroes. After the Battle of Sokovia, in 2016, where the Avengers failed to stop Ultron's invasion of Earth, resulting in much devastation, charges are leveled at James Rhodes who is accused of acting recklessly during his pursuit of Ultron. The UN decides to pass the Sokovia Accords which will put all powered individuals under UN supervision. Not happy with this state of affairs are Steve Rogers aka Captain America and his ally Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier. They are branded as criminals along with Sam Wilson aka Falcon. The UN also proposes the implementation of a panel known as the Commission of Global Security. In response, T'Challa aka Black Panther, king of Wakanda, announces his country will no longer deal with the outside world due to their advanced technology while presenting a case on how his advanced nation can help with their problems including terrorism and disease control. The UN dismisses his ideas and deems him a threat for refusing to give up his lands making him a target of the UN-sanctioned mercenaries called the Border Tribe led by Erik Killmonger. T'Challa manages to escape from them but is arrested by Everett Ross while trying to smuggle himself out of the country on a ship headed to Oakland, California. cfa1e77820
